Mental Health Protection Ways were Discussed in Psychological Movie Analysis Event

IMU PDR Student Club organized an online “PSY-A/Psychological Movie Analysis” event on May 25-26, 2023. Within the scope of the event, the movie “Black Swan” was watched and psychological analysis of the characters in the movie was studied.

In the first part of the two-part activity, the movie “Black Swan”, which was selected for analysis, was watched online with the participants. In the second part of the activity, the characters and the images and objects used in the movie were analyzed. Prof. Dr. Füsun EKŞİ from the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling guided the participants during the analysis phase. With the guidance of EKŞİ, the psychological analysis of the characters in the film was carried out, and by associating these people with real-life people, the psychological well-being of the characters and what can be done for their mental health were discussed. EKŞİ also evaluated the characters and the fiction of the film in the context of gender equality.

In this context, the film analysis activity provided students with the opportunity to see psychological disorders that can be encountered in real life. In this way, students had the opportunity to concretize their theoretical knowledge about psychological illnesses on a life story and had the opportunity to improve themselves by brainstorming on psychological well-being and mental health.
