“Conflict Resolution and Communication Training” Organized by the Sociology Student Club Highlighted Inclusion as a Solution to Conflicts Caused by Inequalities

Sociology student club of our university, organized “Conflict Resolution and Communication Training” for our students. Held on November 7, 2023 at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Meeting Hall, the training was given by Hacer SOLAK, Social Cohesion Coordinator of the European Side of the Red Crescent Community Center.

In the training, which was carried out with an interactive approach, various conflict areas were identified and students were encouraged to discuss these issues. In the training, which focused on various inequalities that lead to social conflicts, conflict situations arising from education inequality, gender inequality, income inequality, and socioeconomic inequalities faced by migrants were discussed. For example, one of the issues discussed was “Should migrant students in Australia be educated together with Australian students or only with migrants?”. As a solution to this problem, the focus was on how the attitudes of the parties should be in reducing inequalities in education and resolving conflicts, and the need for inclusive education was emphasized as a solution. Inclusion was one of the main concepts emphasized for the resolution of all conflictual situations addressed.

Important questions such as “What is social cohesion?”, “What is the source of conflicts?”, “What are the factors that cause conflict?” and “How should communication be in conflict resolution?” were also discussed. The Red Crescent Community Center presented certificates of participation to the students who participated in the event.
