First Products Produced at IMU Sustainability Student Club’s Paper Recycling Workshop

IMU Sustainability Student Club (IMUSUS), in collaboration with the IMU Sustainability Office, continues to develop social responsibility projects on waste management. The club organised two different paper recycling workshops in November and produced the first products of the ‘IMUSUS 2025 Seeded Calendar’, the first product planned to be produced in the 2024-2025 academic year. On November 27 and 28, the calendars’ bases were created with the “Upcycling Paper Workshop”, while in the workshop held on November 29, 2024; calendars were produced by printing on these papers. The workshops hosted by the Sustainability Office were conducted by Ayça ÇELİKBİLEK, Research Assistant at IMU Sustainability Office and IMUSUS academic advisor. The events, which were open to club members, were attended by 14 students and Sustainability Office staff.

In the workshops held on November 27 and 28, old calendars and used papers collected by the student club from the administrative units and office areas of our university were recycled and seeded papers were produced. During the two-day workshops, a total of 350 grams of waste paper was recycled on site. The new papers produced were colourful and seeded. On November 29th, in the ‘Calendar Workshop’, the first samples were prepared by prototyping a special calendar to be used for the university from the paper recycled in the workshops held on the first two days. The design of the ‘IMUSUS 2025 Seeded Calendar’ was developed by the research assistants of the Sustainability Office, Furkan ERUÇAR and . Ayça ÇELİKBİLEK, while all the materials required for calendar printing were prepared by the student club with 3D printing.

In these activities carried out within the scope of the ‘Sustainability Workshops’ project, not only the recycling of paper was ensured, but also the sustainability awareness of the participants was aimed to be increased. These activities contributed to the zero waste policy on campus and aimed to minimise resource consumption.

The project team stated that they plan to continue the upcycling-oriented workshops with different material types and concepts. Interested parties can follow the details of the events and workshops to be organised on the @surdurulebilir_imu Instagram account.
