İŞKUR Youth Program” Carried out in our University Contributes to Reducing Socio-Economic Inequalities

A cooperation protocol was signed between our university and Istanbul İŞKUR Provincial Directorate to provide vocational trainings in different fields and to provide economic support to our students. The program, which aims to prepare our students for business life by offering them the opportunity to work at the university where they study, will contribute to the economic empowerment of our disadvantaged students, especially those struggling with income inequality, and to reduce poverty and socio-economic inequalities

Within the framework of the protocol, students will receive trainings on topics such as individual counseling services, job search, financial literacy, resume preparation and interview techniques. In this context, our students will have the opportunity to earn income while they are students by supporting activities in various fields such as sustainability activities, academic and administrative activities, laboratory and research processes, social service / corporate social responsibility projects, career development and entrepreneurship ecosystem at our University. Students participating in the program will be paid 1,083 TL for each day of participation and their General Health Insurance (GHI) and Work Accident-Occupational Disease insurance premiums will also be covered.

Within the scope of the program, which aims to bring students into the labor market by adapting to business life early and to gain experience and discipline to work in decent work, students will work 3 days a week, up to 7.5 hours a day, in the units they are assigned at our University. In order to participate in İŞKUR Youth Program, where students from all education levels, including associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees can apply, students are required not to have had an insured job within the last one year, not to be currently insured employees and to have a household income that does not exceed a certain limit. Within the scope of the household income requirement, the student’s family income should not exceed 3 times the net minimum wage for participation in the program. The income requirement aims to contribute to the economic empowerment of disadvantaged students and to reduce poverty, income inequalities and socio-economic inequalities.

Among the 2,009 IMU students who applied for the program, a total of 237 students were selected through electronic lottery held on Friday, February 21, 2025 before a notary public. As a result of the lottery, our students, who won the chance to participate in the program as principal candidates, started to work in the units they were assigned in their campuses as of March 3, 2025.
