Vocational Training on “Stump Edema Control and Short Traction Bandage Application” was Given to Medical Staff to Who Will Work with Disabled Earthquake Victims

Within the framework of a cooperation protocol signed between Istanbul Medeniyet University, the Foundation for the Physically Disabled and the International Doctors Association, two free vocational trainings were held for healthcare professionals within the scope of the social responsibility project “Teaching Healthcare Personnel Short Traction Bandaging Management to be Applied to Amputee Earthquake Victims to Ensure Edema Control Before Prosthetics”.

The first stage of the project, “Theoretical Training on Stump Edema Control and Short Traction Bandage Application” was held online on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. In the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer KABLAN talked about the definition, levels and rehabilitation of amputation. She also emphasized how edema control should be handled and banding methods for prosthesis after amputation. In the training, rehabilitation videos and practical applications were also evaluated in order for people to return to healthy living conditions after the earthquake disaster.

The second phase of the project was realized with the “Practical Application Training” held on Monday, April 10, 2023. The practical training was held as face-to-face training at the International Doctors Association (AID) Prosthesis Center.

Practical application training conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer KABLAN; It was carried out with applications on transfemoral, transtibial and transhumeral amputee patients who came to the center. After the bandage application training demonstrated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer KABLAN on amputees, vocational training continued by offering the participants the opportunity to make practical applications. After 2.5 hours of training, the training ended with a question and answer session.
