Earthquake and Women Topic was Discussed at 10th KASAV Symposium at IMU

IMU hosted the 10th KASAV Symposium organised by the Women Health Professionals Foundation (KASAV) with the title of ‘Earthquake and Women’ under the sponsorship of Avicenna. On 26 November 2023, in the symposium held at Istanbul Medeniyet University South Campus Conference Hall, speeches were made on the topics of ‘Disaster and women’, ‘Women health professionals in earthquakes’, ‘Red Crescent and Earthquake, “Earthquake and spiritual services, counselling” and solution proposals were discussed.

Making a statement about the symposium, Dr. Gazi Alataş, General Manager of Social Services of Turkish Red Crescent, stated that women are the group that bears the most burden and has special problems in times of disasters and that all institutions and organisations should develop perspectives by taking this situation into consideration.

During the symposium different topics were discussed between the experts and the majority of the participants stated that during disasters, women are among the vulnerable groups and therefore special measures to protect them should be taken into consideration.
