History Club of our University Organized a Trip to Kazım Karabekir Pasha Museum

The History Club of our university organized a free trip to Kazım Karabekir Pasha Museum in Kadıköy, Istanbul on May 26, 2022 with the contributions of the Library & Documentation Department of our university.

Personal belongings and documents belonging to Kazım Karabekir and his family are exhibited in the museum, which was specially established by the Kazım Karabekir Foundation under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2005. In this sense, visiting the museum, which plays a very important role in recognizing and preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the period in which Kazım Karabekir lived, shed light on the members of the community to see the traces of the National Struggle Period.

After the museum tour, Kazım Karabekir’s daughter Timsal Karabekir gave valuable information about Kazım Karabekir’s life and the museum. Some of the information she conveyed are as follows:

Kazım Karabekir, who bought the mansion in Erenköy District of Kadıköy in 1930, moved here with his family. After living here for about 10 years, Kazım Karabekir was elected Speaker of the Assembly and moved to Ankara with his family. After Kazım Karabekir’s death in 1948, the family returned to Istanbul and continued to live in this mansion. In 2002, Kazım Karabekir Foundation was established by Kazım Karabekir’s daughters Hayat Karabekir Feyzioğlu and Timsal Karabekir Yıldıran and his granddaughter Gülden Gazioğlu to keep the memory of Kazım Karabekir alive. In 2005, a museum was created on the first two floors of the mansion, where Kazım Karabekir kept his belongings since his childhood and his personal belongings, including those related to the events during the National Struggle Period.
