IMU Psychology Society Organized a Seminar on the Contribution of Sports and Arts to Psychological Well-Being

The seminar “Sports, Art and Psychotherapy” organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University Psychology Society provided important information to the participants in the fields of sports psychology and art therapy by addressing the contributions of sports and art to mental health and psychological well-being. On March 14, 2025, the speaker of the event held at Bankkart Conference Hall was Mustafa AYDIN, an expert psychologist who provides psychological performance consultancy to athletes within the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Galatasaray.

In the first part of the seminar, Mr. AYDIN discussed the basic concepts of psychology from a psychoanalytic perspective. He explained the concepts of id, ego and superego in detail and exemplified how these structures function in daily life. Focusing on the inner conflicts and psychological processes of the individual regarding human nature, AYDIN then discussed the relationship between psychology and art. In this section, a comprehensive evaluation was made on the psychological characteristics of artists, the factors that push them to become artists and the attitudes of artists in therapeutic processes.

In the second part of the seminar, sports psychology was discussed. The psychological expectations of athletes, the differences between sports and art, and the ethical attitudes that sports psychologists should pay attention to during psychological performance counseling were discussed in detail. In addition, information was given about the methods to be followed in this process.
