Sociology Club organized a workshop on 07 December 2022, named “Şirket-i Hayriye- Istanbul’s Urbanization Story”.
The workshop was started with the thought that the urbanization process is one of the most important reasons for the historical changes and transformations that Istanbul has undergone. In the workshop, the effects of historical ferries on the urbanization of Istanbul as a metropolis were discussed.
Issues such as the urbanization process being an important turning point in the history of Istanbul and the importance and effects of historical ferries in urban transportation and the development of Istanbul were discussed in the workshop.
Various group activities were included in the workshop and participants were actively involved in the event. With the workshop, which offers a historical journey, the members of the club shared important information about the urban development process of Istanbul. Afterwards, information was given about the contribution of the ferries to the urbanization process of Istanbul and how Istanbul grew. At the event, the historical process, social effects, function, and importance of Şirket-i Hayriye, which is an important part of history, were discussed.
Finally, the workshop was concluded by reading poems about ferry voyages and by watching sections from movies about ferries.
