Lect.Dr. Sevgi KIRBOYUN TİPİ of IMU Educational Sciences Special Education Department delivered a presentation in “Biltevt2022: International Barrier-Free Informatics 2022 Congress”, which was held on September 22-24, 2024. In her presentation, she evaluated the applications aiming to empower visually impaired students and enhance their access to education.
Dr. Sevgi KIRBOYUN TİPİ delivered her presentation on the second day of the Congress and shared her experiences with the Dokun-Duy-Öğren Application.
She explained that the Dokun-Duy-Öğren Application is a mobile application launched with the cooperation of the Inclusive and Accessible Life Association (ERYADER) and aims to strengthen the independent learning experiences of individuals with visual impairment by providing them with both tactile and auditory access to information to offer a quality and inclusive educational environment for individuals with disabilities.
In her presentation titled “Experiences with Dokun-Duy-Öğren Application”, Lect.Dr. Sevgi KIRBOYUN TİPİ also offered an experience with this application to visually impaired students. She conducted a hands-on activity with three volunteer participants with visually impairment in different age groups about using the Dokun-Duy-Öğren application. She also presented how both tactile and audio descriptions allow students who are visually impaired to access information independently. The participants with visual impairments who experienced the Dokun-Duy-Öğren Application emphasized that the application can be used independently and that they can access information instantly, regardless of time and place. They also stated that the application allows them to use both the sense of touch and hearing, thus using multiple senses provides faster and permanent learning.
