Istanbul Medeniyet University Medeniyet Techno Society, in cooperation with Üsküdar Municipality, organized a cubism-themed painting workshop on March 15, 2025 at Üsküdar Science Center within the scope of the “Being a Woman in Science” event, which emphasized the roles of women in science, academia and art. The workshop was free of charge and open to general participation.
Following the seminar, where women’s employment and professional experiences, advantages and difficulties faced by women in working life were discussed, the workshops organized after the seminar offered participants the opportunity to experience the scientific and artistic production process. In the workshops, creative thinking and applied learning methods were emphasized by conducting interactive studies in which science and art were intertwined. Participants gained both an academic and artistic perspective with a special presentation on the art of the famous Turkish painter Fahrünnisa ZEYD and the contributions of women in science.
In the painting workshop organized by the Medeniyet Tekno Community, participants gained awareness of our local art and cultural heritage while discovering ways to express the contributions of women in science through visual arts through painting works. Inspired by Fahrünnisa ZEYD’s cubic design approach, the applications focused on the expression of scientific concepts in an aesthetic language. In this process where science and art intersect, the participants exchanged ideas and gained new perspectives by exploring ways to make women figures in the history of science visible through art.
The event aimed to encourage a stronger presence of women in science and academia, while at the same time highlighting the transformative power of art.
