Our students participated in the Future of Water Project Competition Final held at the ASELSAN campus on December 22, 2021 and received an award.
The Talent Gate Project Contest series was initiated by the Presidency of Türkiye in 2021 with the aim of providing young and aspiring talents with the opportunity to produce innovative projects in different fields and improve themselves through project competitions. One of the project competitions in question is the “Future of Water Project Competition” held in cooperation with the Presidential Human Resources Office and ASELSAN.
A team of students from our Industrial Engineering Department including Şeyma Duymaz and Beyza Nur Aydoğan, who participated in the Future of Water Project Competition on behalf of Istanbul Medeniyet University, was selected as one of the most successful projects with their project called “Artificial Intelligence Control of Water Losses in Dams” and showed outstanding success as one of the six teams that made it to the finals.
Our students’ project aims to autonomously control water losses in dams using support vector machines, a machine learning technique. Data will be obtained by determining the factors causing water losses in the dam. Estimations will be based on high-dimensional and complex data classified with SVM and potential negative situations will be prevented with predictive maintenance. The project is different and innovative in that it is future-oriented, while current applications make instantaneous or retrospective analyses. As one of the six teams that made it to the finals in the competition, our students showed outstanding success and received an award. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik accompanied our students on their day of pride and witnessed their success.
We congratulate our students and wish them continued success in their endeavors.
