Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Student Club Discussed the Contribution of Sports to Healthy Lifestyle in Vocational Training Event

Istanbul Medeniyet University Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Club organized a practical vocational training event in order to better understand the contributions of sports to a healthy lifestyle and the role of physiotherapy for athlete health. On March 21, 2025, the club members watched the volleyball match between Galatasaray and Eczacıbaşı Vitra at Burhan Felek Vestel Volleyball Hall and observed the exercises performed after the match. Prof. Dr. Emel METE and the team’s physiotherapist provided important information about athlete health, sports injuries and rehabilitation processes.

In team sports such as volleyball, sprains, muscle strains and joint dysfunctions that athletes often experience during training and matches must be properly managed by a professional physiotherapist. At the event, club members observed how professional physiotherapists deal with such injuries and learned about the importance of therapeutic interventions to improve athlete performance.

The club members also watched the exercises and rehabilitation processes that support the athlete’s overall health, realizing how decisive these processes are in an athlete’s career. They examined in detail the processes by which physiotherapists help athletes quickly return to their previous performance after injuries.
The event also showed the participants how sport and physiotherapy complement each other. Physiotherapy plays a critical role not only post-injury, but also in important areas such as improving performance, flexibility and endurance in athletes. In a sport that requires speed and strength, such as volleyball, it is crucial that athletes receive regular physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to perform at their peak. The event allowed the members of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Club to both reinforce their theoretical knowledge and make practical observations in the field.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting athlete health, preventing sports injuries and rapid recovery processes, this event offered an important learning opportunity for the professional development of our students in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.
