A big Ramadan festival was organized at Istanbul Medeniyet University with the organization of our student societies and hosted over 1200 participants. Held on March 10, 2025 at our South Campus, the event was realized with the sponsorship of the General Directorate of Foundations and with the joint efforts of an organization team of 100 people consisting of students from İlim ve Medeniyet, Young IHH, Young Yeşilay, Social Academy, Common Mind, IMU AHFA, MİSHAK and New Generation communities. In the organization, which also included an iftar event, free food was distributed to the participants, ensuring equal access to basic services for all groups.
The program started at 17.00 with Prof. Dr. Mesut KAYA’s lecture on “Our Ramadan Values”. Then, at 18:15, Prof. Dr. Ali TAN inspired the participants with a speech on “Culture and Civilization”. This presentation was crowned with a ney recital. The conferences were held in Aşık Paşa Conference Hall in our South Campus.
When it was time for iftar, the participants sat on mats in the open area and broke their fast. After evening prayers, the festivities continued with traditional Ramadan Street activities. In this area, participants had a pleasant time with calligraphy and marbling tables, as well as a kindness board activity and various gifts were distributed. Traditional treats such as Ottoman paste, boza and sherbet gave the participants a Ramadan atmosphere.
The iftar event, a part of UNESCO‘s intangible cultural heritage list, which takes place in the form of meetings or meals that strengthen family and community ties and encourage benevolence, solidarity and social exchange, reinforced the participants’ feelings of solidarity and solidarity.
