The Young Educators Club of our university, which has been recently established by the students of IMU Primary Education Mathematics Teaching program, held its first event, the “Maltepe Beach Cycling Tour”, on the Maltepe Beach on May 17th 2022, with the support of our advisor Assoc. Prof. Rabia SAVAŞ.
The bicycle tour event, which attracted the attention of the club members, was held with 40 bicycles provided by Maltepe Youth Center free of charge to the students as part of their inclusiveness policy. The students, who overcame the stress of the upcoming final week by cycling together thanks to the tour, stated that their motivation increased at the end of the event. During the event, importance of sports and healthy life was emphasized, with the emphasis on healthy lifestyle and the harms of addictions such as tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that physical inactivity is associated with 3.2 million deaths worldwide each year. For this reason, WHO recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week for adults. With the slogan “Moving Students Healthy Campuses“, the Young Educators Club is planning to repeat the bike tour event in the near future.
