The event on “Human Health Effects of Biotechnology and Organ Regeneration” organized by the Biotechnology Club of our university was held online on March 23, 2021. Assoc. Prof. Barış BİNAY and Assoc. Prof. Güneş ÖZHAN were the speakers in the event which was organized in two sessions.
In the first session, Assoc. Prof. Barış BİNAY made a presentation on “Biotechnology from the Past to the Future”, in which he talked about the biotechnological applications carried out in the past and today’s applications. He emphasized that possible applications in the future will contribute to production innovation and humanity in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
In the second session of the event, Assoc. Prof. Güneş ÖZHAN made a presentation titled “Zebra Fish ‘Danio Rerio’ as a Model for Organ Regeneration and Cancer”. ÖZHAN talked about how organ regeneration takes place and the characteristics of model animals. He pointed out that the reason for the use of zebrafish is that it is a very suitable model for human and medicine research due to its ability to regenerate damaged tissues and organs. He provided information about the related studies which aim to treat various ailments from repairing the damages in the heart tissue (which can cause heart failure) caused by cardiovascular diseases to improving cartilage damage in the joints thanks to the production of artificial tissues and organs.
Our students took great interest in the event dealing with the positive effects of Biotechnology and Organ Regeneration on human health.
