Res. Asst. Zeynep Başkan from IMU Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Basic Education and Dr. Nurcan Şener from Marmara University Basic Education Department co-authored the book chapter titled “Being an Inclusion Student in Primary School” included in the book “Contemporary Topics on Primary School-I” published by Pegem Academy.
In their study, ŞENER and BAŞKAN discuss inclusive education and its benefits, educational support services, educational arrangements, attitudes to inclusive education, problems experienced in inclusive education, professional competencies of teachers, and distance education process in inclusive education. In the book chapter, they argue that inclusive education is a process that includes many factors and as a system it requires collaboration between teachers, parents, administrators, and students. They highlight that particularly in inclusive education, classroom teachers have a great responsibility in ensuring the continuity of the education of students with special needs and their integration with society. In addition, they underlined the necessity and importance of educational support services for the success of inclusive education and explained educational support services. Finally, they mentioned the situation of students with special needs and the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the education of mainstreaming students in the distance education process.
