The Animal Nursing Homes event was organized by the IMUIES community of the Industrial Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of our university. Within the scope of the event, a visit was made to the Temporary Animal Nursing Home of Kadıköy Municipality on December 9, 2022.
In the world, there are creatures whose lives are endangered as the green areas that decrease due to urbanization make it difficult to find food. During the visit to the nursing home, where the needs of these animals that live on land and whose habitats are of great importance for the protection of the ecosystem are met, the staff informed the students about the daily care and rehabilitation process of the animals in the nursing home. During the visit, the students who helped feed the animals in the nursing home spent time with dogs and cats and learned to act with the awareness that animals need love and attention besides nutrition. During the event, the importance of donating and volunteering time to help animals in nursing homes and shelters was also mentioned. This visit increased the students’ sense of responsibility and created the awareness that they should be more sensitive to animals, including those at risk of extinction. At the same time, it was aimed to better understand the needs of animals by emphasizing the importance of community-based conservation to contribute to animal welfare.
