The first sorMASAM event of the year, organized by the Istanbul Medeniyet University African Health Studies Application and Research Center (MASAM), was held under the title of “Gaza Through the Eyes of a Physician.” The event, held on February 11, 2025, at the Ziraat Bank Hall of the Central Library, featured the Chief Physician of the Turkey-Palestine Friendship Hospital and the President of the Palestinian Surgery Association, Dr. Sobhi Skaik, as a guest.
Dr. Skaik stated in her speech that the healthcare system in Gaza is facing major challenges and that public health in the region has been severely damaged by the ongoing conflict and genocide. Emphasizing that healthcare workers in Gaza continue to work courageously despite losing their loved ones and increasing mortality rates, Dr. Skaik gave a strong message of resistance against human rights violations by saying, “The people of Gaza will never leave Gaza, no matter the cost!”
Also at the event, MASAM President Prof. Dr. Orhan Alimoğlu and Genç MASAM Community Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemal Kocaaslan stated that they promised to provide continuous support to Gaza in terms of medical education and that their efforts to protect human health will continue.
