Immigration Policies and Housing Settlement Conservation Issues in Gökçeada were Discussed in the First Seminar of the “Mimarlık Araştırmaları” Seminar Series

The first seminar of the “Mimarlık Araştırmaları” seminar series organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University Department of Architecture was held online on June 24, 2021 with the presentation of Dr. Sevcan Ercan, Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Istanbul Medeniyet University.

Dr. Sevcan ERCAN, in her presentation titled “Gökçeada’da Mekân Politikaları”, shared the concepts that are decisive in the development of Gökçeada in the last century, such as migration policies and housing settlement conservation, with the audience through the architectural and space production processes experienced on the island. She discussed the immigration policies on the island and the social change over the years. He also provided information on the administrative policies adopted for the conservation of historical buildings. In addition, Ercan presented details on reseach methods used in the discipline of architecture and their close relationship with other disciplines, based on his experiences in his research on Gökçeada. The seminar ended with a question-and-answer session that followed the presentation and included discussions on housing conservation settlements and migration history.
