IMU Hosts Turkey Young Law Simulation Judicial System Workshop

The simulation workshop organized by Turkey Young Law Simulation on 11-12-13 February 2022 was hosted by Istanbul Medeniyet University in Göztepe Campus South Compound with law students and more than 100 non-field participants who are interested in law.

In the simulation lasting 3 days, the participants took on the roles of judges, prosecutors and lawyers to discuss and resolve the problems in the given case files due to their assigned roles, prepared by the academy team within the framework of positive legal rules and related judicial systems.

Within the scope of the event, the Constitutional Court, the International Court of Justice and the Court of Roman Law were simulated. In these courts, a political party closure case, the Bozkurt-Lotus Case between Turkey and France and the Tiberius Gracchus case were handled.

In the party closure case, a real event of the trial of a political party dealing with cryptocurrencies at the Constitutional Court was simulated on the grounds that it was deemed unlawful due to some of its actions.

In the Bozkurt Lotus case which was a conflict in the open sea,  the collusion between Turkish Bozkurt ship and French Lotus ship where 8 Turkish citizens lost their lives was revived and decided in line with the opinion of the Court at that time

In the Moot Court of Roman Law, the legality of Tiberius Gracchus, who lived during the Roman Empire, trying to protect the rights of the peasants against the Land Reform by unlawful means was discussed.

In the event, the use of legal remedies through the above-mentioned courts was exemplified, and the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, the importance of transparent institutions, and the effect of an effective justice system on creating a fair society were examined through the cases studied. Thus, with the information provided about the cases examined through different courts and judicial systems, the public event served as in-service training for both law students and professionals.
