Times Higher Education (THE), one of the leading higher education ranking institutions, has been assessing universities from around the globe in terms of their work toward the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2019 and publishing the results in its “Impact Rankings”. İstanbul Medeniyet University (IMU) was ranked for the first time in 2021 along with 1154 universities from 96 countries.
As one of the 49 universities listed from Turkey, IMU applied to only four of the 17 sustainable development goals for the index. Of these four SDGs, IMU achieved a significant accomplishment by being globally ranked in the 301-400 range for SDG-2 “Zero Hunger”. IMU’s food scholarships provided to all the students who need them and its activities aiming to prevent food waste have played a significant role in this particular achievement.
IMU was ranked in the 401-600 range for SDG-3 “Good Health and Well-Being” among all universities from around the globe. This high global rank serves as a proof of IMU’s continuous efforts to organize various events to inform our students, staff, and the general public about health-related issues.
As a higher education institution that always carries out its academic activities with a focus on high quality in education, IMU was globally ranked in the 601-800 range for SDG-4 “Quality Education”. Being well aware of the importance of education for sustainable development, IMU significantly contributes to the goal of inclusive and high-quality education for all with its educational activities.
IMU achieved another great success in SDG-17 “Partnerships for the Goals” and was globally ranked in the 601-800 range in this particular SDG.
IMU has earned great success in Times Higher Education 2021 Impact Rankings with its first-time application and it has also been highly active to contribute to all of the 17 SDGs of the UN in addition to these four qualifying SDGs.
