IMU Sustainability Student Club Achieved Waste Reduction and Provided Equal Opportunity in Education with “Finger Puppet Design Workshop with Upcycling”

IMU Student Sustainability Club organized a workshop on “Designing Finger Puppets with Upcycling” to reduce waste production. Held on Tuesday, April 15, 2024 at Istanbul Medeniyet University Sustainability Office, the workshop was facilitated by Ayça ÇELİKBİLEK, Research Assistant at IMU Sustainability Office. The workshop was open to the participation of all our students, staff and the public.

Finger and hand puppets were produced from waste fabric and felt collected at the Upcycling and Finger Puppet Design Workshop. In addition to the materials provided by the Sustainability Student Club, unused materials brought by the participants from their homes were also utilized in the production of the puppets. Previously collected waste paper was used to make the puppet molds. Thus, the consumption of new resources was minimized by reusing resources in the production process. A total of 50 finger puppets were produced in the 2-hour workshop. The puppets produced in the workshop were presented to the children who were being treated at Göztepe Prof. Dr. Süleyman YALÇIN City Hospital on April 23rd.

The project team of the IMU Sustainability Student Club, which cooperates to reduce the amount of waste produced within the campus areas and to produce corporate responsibility projects to support the zero waste policy of our University, informed that recycling and upcycling activities will continue with different materials and concepts.
