IMU Young MASAM Club Organizes the “Fundamental Principles of Ultrasonography Workshop” as a Contribution to Vocational Training

The Young MASAM student club of our university organized a practical workshop on the “Fundamental Principles of Ultrasonography” on December 3, 2022 to contribute to the vocational training of our medical students. Fifteen medical students participated in the workshop coordinated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nesrin GÜNDÜZ of IMU Faculty of Medicine and held at Prof.Dr. Süleyman Yalçın City Hospital on December 3, 2022 with the aim of teaching fundamental ultrasonography skills to the participants.

During the training program, students were presented with a comprehensive curriculum covering the basic principles of ultrasonography. They were first given theoretical information such as the physical principles of ultrasound waves, different types of ultrasound devices and probes, appropriate techniques for image acquisition and interpretation. The students were then introduced to the applications of ultrasound in various medical fields such as obstetrics, cardiology and radiology, and how it can be used to diagnose health risks in these fields. Thus, future physicians were provided with an important vocational training opportunity to diagnose many diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases, with the help of ultrasound in order to realize the Sustainable Development Goal of “reducing by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by 2030″.

Hands-on education sessions were a significant part of the program, allowing participants to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Under the guidance of experienced instructors like Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nesrin GÜNDÜZ, Dr. Hüseyin Ertuğrul ÖZAY, Dr. Ömer ÇETIN, and Dr. Nergiz ADIYAMAN, students had the opportunity to practice ultrasound imaging on simulation models and real patient cases. These practical experiences helped improve their skills in image acquisition, interpretation, and reporting.

At the end of the program, an evaluation meeting was held, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skills and receive feedback from the instructors. This meeting provided a platform for academic discussions, allowing students to further enhance their understanding of ultrasound and clinical applications.
