Informatics and Information Club Discussed Metaverse in a Talk in the context of Human Rights

Istanbul Medeniyet University Informatics and Information Club (BİLEN) organized a talk about one of today’s popular topics, Metaverse on April 1, 2022. Gürcan SERBEST, the founder of Negentra&Fernvaille, a pioneer in the field of Metaverse, participated in the talk as the speaker.

SERBEST discussed various topics in his speech, including what Metaverse is, its impact on our lives, its contribution to scientific activities, and its evaluation from the perspective of human rights.

He explained that Metaverse represents the concept of a virtual world created using virtual reality, augmented reality, and advanced technologies. He emphasized that this vision encompasses a future where individuals can digitally interact, create virtual worlds, and engage with other people.

In the speech, it was highlighted that Metaverse has become increasingly popular with the advancement of virtual reality technologies and offers product innovation in numerous fields. SERBEST conveyed that users can create their own digital characters, explore virtual worlds, participate in activities, and interact with other users.

In the later parts of the speech, SERBEST emphasized the importance of ensuring that Metaverse respects and safeguards fundamental human rights, mentioning that one of the key areas to address is privacy rights. He stated that individuals can share personal data and participate in conversations within Metaverse, and it is mandatory to ensure the protection of personal data and ensuring data security to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or exploitation of personal information.
