Innovation in Health Discussed in IMUGEN’21 Days Organized by our Student Club

Organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Club, “IMUGEN’21 DAYS” event was held online on March 22-29, 2021. In the event, which was held with the presentations of our expert scholars on different topics, it was ensured that the participants achieved innovative gains in the field of genetics.

The event on Monday, March 22 at 20:00 with a presentation on “Microbiota and Reproduction” delivered by Prof.Dr. Abdullah KARAER of İnönü University Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Carrying out his studies in the field of human health and medical sciences, Prof. Dr. Abdullah KARAER’s presentation aimed to contribute to the reduction of neonatal mortality and maternal mortality rates.

On Tuesday, March 23, at 19.00, Assoc. Prof. Necla BIRGÜL İYISON of Boğaziçi University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics attended the event with her presentation on “GPCRs as drug targets” within the scope of realizing product innovation in the pharmaceutical industry. In the presentation, Assoc. Prof. BIRGÜL İYISON shared the results of her studies on Wnt/beta catenin signal transduction and allatostatin receptor function, which can also be used in the treatment of human diseases.

On Wednesday, March 24, at 20:00, Assoc. Prof. Nagehan ERSOY TUNALI attended the event with her presentation on “Huntington’s Disease”. In her presentation, Assoc. Prof. ERSOY TUNALI talked about her research on the molecular biology and genomics of genetic disorders. She was followed by Asst. Prof. Beyza GÖNCÜ of Bezmialem University Department of Medical Services and Techniques, who talked about the current approaches in Parathyroid Transplantation, which is one of the affordable and sustainable treatment methods providing an innovative approach in treatment processes, and discussed its contributions to the accessibility of the health system.

On Monday, March 29, at 20:00, the event ended with a presentation on “Droshophila Melanogaster Sensory Receptors” by Prof. Dr. Arzu ÇELIK FUSS, who has conducted research on cell type specification during eye development. In her presentation, she provided information about the innovations in health industry achieved through the use of a two-winged insect species called Droshophila Melanogaster in the field of molecular genetics.
