MASAM Aims to Improve Health Quality in Somaliland with Psychiatry and Nursing Training Programs

Istanbul Medeniyet University African Health Studies Application and Research Center (MASAM) is adding a new one to its educational activities in the field of health in Somaliland. Within the scope of the cooperation between Istanbul Medeniyet University and Somaliland Frantz Fanon University, a Psychiatry Specialization Program and a Nursing Master’s Program are being implemented under the coordination of MASAM.

MASAM, which has been conducting Medical Residency Programs in Somaliland for years, continues its efforts to increase the quality of health services with determination. As a result of the latest negotiations, training programs in the fields of psychiatry and nursing, which stand out as a great need in the region, are being launched.

MASAM President Prof. Dr. Orhan Alimoğlu said, “In Somaliland, which does not have a psychiatry training program and a nursing master’s program, we believe that with these trainings, patient care standards will increase and the quality of life will increase.”

The programs will be led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Turan Karatepe, Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Istanbul Medeniyet University, and Prof. Dr. Ayşe Okanlı from the Department of Nursing.

MASAM officials stated that they will continue to produce sustainable solutions in the field of health in Africa and contribute to the development of health services in the region through the sharing of scientific knowledge. It was also stated that efforts will continue to increase the capacity of faculty members, while emphasizing the need to reduce inequalities in health services.
