In her opening speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nuriye AKBAY emphasized that truly understanding sepsis sometimes comes through personal experience. She shared that one of her professors passed away due to an infection that developed following a successful appendicitis surgery, highlighting the seriousness of infectious diseases. She stated that this experience profoundly changed her perspective on sepsis, and expressed her belief that the symposium would not only contribute to knowledge exchange within the medical community but also raise significant public awareness.
Following her, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Sadrettin PENÇE delivered his remarks. He pointed out the rapidly growing structure of the faculty, currently hosting 1,200 students, 850 research assistants, and over 200 faculty members. He emphasized that such events contribute greatly to both the scientific community and public health, and affirmed the university’s continued support for similar initiatives. He highlighted the importance of this symposium on sepsis, noting that losses caused by this disease leave a lasting impact on the medical field.
The symposium aimed to bring together academics, specialists, and residents in the field of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology. It comprehensively addressed current challenges and solutions in sepsis management. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the global spread of sepsis, its pathophysiological processes, diagnostic methods, and emerging treatment strategies. The potential role of artificial intelligence in sepsis management was also discussed.
Enriched by the contributions of expert speakers, the symposium provided up-to-date insights into the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis while also exploring innovative topics such as the use of AI in disease management. Offering a multi-dimensional perspective to attendees, the event aimed to enhance healthcare professionals’ knowledge of sepsis and strengthen public awareness.
