“Mathematics with Illustrated Children’s Books” Presentation was Held as part of eTwinning Project for Early Childhood Education

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kevser KOÇ, head of the Department of Basic Education at Istanbul Medeniyet University and faculty member at the Pre-School Education Program, made a presentation on “Mathematics with Illustrated Children’s Books” on January 18, 2022 as part of a project.

In the presentation, KOÇ discussed the importance of teaching mathematics in early childhood education, the importance of picture books for children and the processes of picture books in teaching mathematics. She underlined that that children’s books provide a context for meaningful learning, enable children to make personal connections, and encourage them to ask questions and conduct research by encountering different perspectives and problems.

Delivered to contribute to equal access to quality preschool education and to provide accessible, inclusive and quality education, the seminar was attended by a total of 86 people including Assoc.Prof.Dr. Yusuf KOÇ, Asst.Prof.Dr. Ayşegül AKINCI COŞGUN, teachers and families. The teachers and families gave positive feedback following the in-service training for teachers and parental training.

The seminar was carried out as part of the “eTwinning Kids Mathematics Adventure Project” conducted with 10 teachers and their students from Aksaray, Diyarbakır, Erzincan and Kocaeli provinces. With the project, applications were made with interdisciplinary activities for the acquisition of mathematics skills in preschool education. Children and families were actively involved in the project. In the education, studies carried out in cooperation between the school and family activate the learning process and provide rapid steps. Within the scope of the project, classroom activity practices with children were carried out with teachers, and web2 activity reinforcement practices are carried out with family support.
