One of the faculty members of the Turkish Music Department of our university, Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Tunçer and a member of the Faculty of Educational Sciences Asst. Prof. Dr. Nihan Şahinkaya have published an article titled “The Effect of Teaching Decimal Fractions Supported by Music and Stories in the Fourth Grade on Mathematics and Music Attitudes” in the 231th issue of the “Journal of National Education”.
In this article written within the scope of the project coded S-BAG-2015-724, supported by the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of our university within the scope of partnerships for goals, TUNÇER and ŞAHİNKAYA discussed the subject of teaching decimal fractions with music and stories, specific to the disciplines of music and mathematics. The musical pieces and stories were created in accordance with the music and mathematics basic education programs of the Ministry of Education by working with approximately 350 children in the district of Üsküdar with the permission of the Üsküdar Ministry of National Education. In addition, teachers’ opinions were sought for the musical stories created in line with teacher training. As a result of teachers’ and students’ opinions, it can be said that this process makes the lesson more fun and interesting.
