The TEAM IMU FW team consisting of our students participated in the International Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition held between 13-18 September 2021 as part of TEKNOFEST. The team’s advisor is Asst. Prof. Dr. Haluk BAYRAM of our Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and its members include Ahmet Buğra Büyükarslan, Mustafa Şahan, Umut Dumandağ, Ferdi Dumandağ, and Yasin Koca from the student clubs of Field Robotics Laboratory and IMU Robotics Club.
The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system specially designed and produced by the team for the competition has a take-off weight of 1.6 kg and a wingspan of 200 cm. The UAV can perform fully autonomous take-off, cruise flight and landing missions in a disposable configuration. With the software developed by the team, target recognition and target positioning can be performed, and flight parameters can be followed in real time from the ground through the original ground station interface software. In line with the task, it can autonomously drop a payload to the determined coordinates without human intervention through autonomous software. The UAV produced with these features is important in terms of technological innovation and development.
Team IMU FW achieved great success by winning the 3rd prize in the Fixed Wing Domesticity Category with its developed autonomous flight and unique ground station interface software.
