Our University and Turkish Transplant Foundation Organize an International Cartoon Contest to Raise Organ Donation Awareness

Our university and the Turkish Transplant Foundation  are organizing an international cartoon contest on organ donation to raise social awareness about organ donation in the national and international arena.

A protocol was signed by Rector Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik and Dr. Eyüp Kahveci, the Chairman of the Turkish Transplant Foundation, for the organization of the International Organ Donation Cartoon Contest, the second of which will be held this year. The contest project will be conducted by Dr. Eyüp Kahveci and Assoc. Prof. Doğan Arslan, Head of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of our university.

Many important organizations and institutions such as the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, Turkish Kidney Transplant Foundation, Turkish Society of Transplant Coordinators, Health Diplomacy Association, International Transplant Network, Kütahya Dumlupınar University, Erciyes Organ Transplant Foundation, Canopy, Pulmonary Hypertension and Scleroderma Patient Association, Novartis Turkey, Georgian Association of Transplantologists (GAT), and Donor Network Association Bosnia and Herzegovina (DN&BH) also support the 2nd International Organ Donation Cartoon Contest, which focuses on a very important issue in terms of public health.

As it is known, more than 1 million patients around the world and around 26 thousand patients in Turkey are waiting to reach a suitable organ to be donated to hold on to life. With increasing awareness about organ donation, it is hoped that these patients will have access to suitable organ transplantations in a shorter time. The contest aims to raise social awareness by bringing together the healing power of art and design with social issues, and to increase social consciousness, which will enable more organ donations.

The contest will be supported by jury members from different countries (Alireza Pakdel from Iran, Marco De Angelis from Italy, Pawel Kuczynk from Poland, Rudy Gheysens from Belgium, Jitet Koestana from Indonesia, Seyran Caferli from Azerbaijan, Hüseyin Çakmak from Cyprus) and Turkey (Ender Merter, the programmer of NTV Reklam Arası, Necdet Yılmaz, lecturer from Üsküdar University, Culture and Tourism Visual Arts general manager Alper Özkan, Yeditepe University faculty member and artist Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu), and will also include our faculty member Doğan Arslan as one of the jury members.
