Our Young Green Crescent Club Held an Event on the “Effect of the Developing Food Industry on Food Addiction”

Young Green Crescent Club, one of the clubs of our university, organized the 101st Year Speeches Series, where they talked about the concept of addiction with an important guest every day during the Green Crescent Week, which celebrates its 101st anniversary this year.

In the series, where addiction is discussed in many aspects, especially sociological, psychological and philosophical aspects, a talk on “The Effect of the Developing Food Industry on Food Addiction” was held with the participation of Dietitian Aybüke BALLICA on food addiction.

In the online event held on March 5, 2021, Friday, BALLICA talked about the effects of packaged foods on human health, the ingredients added to extend the shelf life of packaged foods, the importance of reducing global food waste, the chemicals used to make it more palatable and triggering the addiction point of the brain. She also mentioned the types of eating disorders, what causes them and what needs to be considered for a healthy lifestyle. Students from various departments, especially the students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of our school, participated in the event, which continued with the answering of student questions.
