Prof.Dr.Yeşim Güleç Aslan Gave A Seminar On Special Education to IMU Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Team

Prof.Dr.Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN of Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Special Education gave an online seminar on “Special Education” at the invitation of Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases team in order to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation on 6 January, 2022.

In this seminar, firstly, Prof.Dr. Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN provided an overview of special education processes in Turkey, defined individuals with special needs, and talked about the special education services and service providers. Then, the stages from symptoms to the education process in the education of individuals with special needs and special education practices in Turkey, including inclusion, inclusive environments and home education, were discussed in detail. In the second part of the presentation, information was given about the ErISFaVIA (Early Intervention Services for Families with Children with Vision Impairment and Additional Disabilities)-2019-1-EL01-KA201-062886 project approved by the Erasmus+ Program (Key Action 2) and conducted by Istanbul Medeniyet University (IMU-Project manager Asst.Prof.Dr. Emine AYYILDIZ, project manager, project researchers Prof.Dr. Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN and Dr. Hande ARSLAN ÇİFTÇİ) and Ayşe Nurtaç Sözbir Günebakan Support Association for Multi-Disabled Blind Children and Their Families (ÇEGDER) from Turkey as partners, with the University of Thessaly from Greece as the main coordinator.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vahdettin GÖRMEZ, Asst.Prof.Dr. Alperen BIKMAZER and specialists working in the department were informed about important principles within the scope of educational guidance and special education and the importance of the joint work of medical and educational disciplines. In addition to theoretical information, case presentations were also included.
