The Young Educators Student Club of our university organized a two-step social responsibility project for stray animals called “A Bowl of Love”.
The first stage of the two-step project was held on October 04, 2022 at the North Campus of Istanbul Medeniyet University. Cat houses provided in line with the agreement between the Club and Üsküdar Municipality and food containers purchased with the support of club members were placed. By creating living spaces for campus cats, it was aimed to accommodate and feed stray animals whose natural habitats are decreasing due to rapid urbanization and which have difficulty in finding food and water in urban areas due to the effect of climate change. This event, which aims for the community-based protection of the stray animals living on land, has also brought to life the idea that ‘streets are the habitat of stray animals’ in accordance with the Animal Protection Law No. 5199 by raising awareness and inclusion of the society on this issue. The project also aimed to help students develop in social, cultural and educational areas and to become more conscious individuals towards nature and animals. As a result of the project implemented as part of the “October 4th World Animals Day”, warm homes were provided for the stray animals in our campus.
In the second part of the study, “A Bowl of Love Project Charity Sale” was held in front of the Ziraat Bank Library of Istanbul Medeniyet University between 10:00-17:00 on 14 December 2022.
The food offered for sale at the charity sale was prepared by the members of the Young Educators Club and offered for sale. The sale, which was organized to meet the food and necessary care needs of our animal friends, was greeted with interest by our university teachers and students. The income of the charity sale was allocated to be used to meet the food and necessary needs of stray animals.
