A Book Co-authored by Res. Asst. Dr. Ayşe Büşra SUBAŞI YURTÇU Published on Inclusion/Integration Practices for Children with Special Needs

The book “Kaynaştırma/Bütünleştirme Uygulamalarına Yönelik Bir Destek Eğitim Hizmeti: Özel Eğitim Danışmanlığı” (A Supportive Educational Service for Inclusion/Integration Practices: Special Education Counseling) co-authored by Dr. Ayşe Büşra SUBAŞI YURTÇU of IMU Department of Special Education book titled has been published by Vize Akademik Publishing House.

The book was produced from YURTÇU’s doctoral dissertation titled “Improving Inclusive Practices in a Preschool Education Classroom Through Counseling: An Action Research” conducted under the supervision of Prof. E. Sema BATU.

The first part of the book deals with the implementation process of supportive education services and counseling in inclusive practices and inclusive education and the second section discusses the international and national literature on counseling, while the last section presents the process of counseling practice carried out within the scope of the thesis as an example of inclusive practices in early childhood education.

From the book’s foreword:

“With the developing perspective on human rights and the contribution of inclusion/integration practices to stakeholders, inclusion practices and related research are quite common today. Studies on these practices indicate that there are some services that should be provided to teachers and students while individuals with special education needs receive education in the same environment as their typically developing peers. One of such supportive education services is counseling. Counseling comes to the fore among supportive education services due to some advantages it has. For this reason, it can be said that it is very important to convey sample applications about how counseling is applied.

The counseling service, whose positive results have been demonstrated by extensive research, has been the subject of only a few studies and some book chapters in Turkey. However, there is no source where the implementation process is explained in detail with examples. We think that this book will contribute to bridge this gap, that experts who will provide counseling can see sample applications and that it will be a resource that can be used in the process of training counselors. We hope that the inclusive practices in our study will be beneficial to all stakeholders and researchers…”
