A Seminar Held on the Importance of Early Intervention in Special Education

Prof.Dr.Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN, faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University Department of Special Education, delivered an online seminar presentation on “The Importance of Early Intervention in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder” on 06.04.2022 as part of the program organized by the Special Education Schools affiliated to Kadıköy District Directorate of National Education within the scope of April 2 World Autism Awareness Day.

In her presentation, Prof.Dr. GÜLEÇ ASLAN explained the importance of early intervention for individuals with special needs. She emphasized the need for early intervention for people with special education, especially individuals with autism. She talked about the distinctive features of individuals with autism, the importance of early intervention and a qualified early education, the difficulties experienced by individuals with autism in social issues and when communicating with other individuals, the importance of inclusion practices, and the Applied Behavior Analysis approach. She mentioned the importance of inclusion practices prepared for individuals with autism for equal opportunity and accessible education for all, not in segregated environments, but in accordance with the logic of inclusive education both in the school environment and in the social areas. She also talked about the importance of play and music in reducing inequalities experienced by individuals with special needs, and gave advice to both teachers and families about activities and arrangements that can be made in the classroom and at home.
