Assoc. Prof. Mehmet BOYACI’s Book Chapters titled “Violence in Schools” and “Bullying and Prevention of Bullying” Published

The book chapters titled “Violence in Schools” and “Bullying and Prevention of Bullying” authored by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet BOYACI, a faculty member of Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Educational Sciences, were included in the book titled “Healthy and Safe School Life” published by PEGEM Academic Publishing.

In his chapter on “Violence in Schools“, BOYACI discussed the types and causes of violent acts that threaten health and safety at schools, offering suggestions about how to prevent them. He examined violence both from the perspective of children and other school members. As BOYACI informed, UNICEF has reported that almost half of the students from different parts of the world have been subject to violence in or around the school. He underlined that violence against children has devastating effects and children who have been victims of violence from a young age may become perpetrators of violence in the future. The author argued that preventive and developmental studies should be carried out in order to prevent this situation and create a peaceful society, so that a safe and effective learning environment can be created for both children and employees. When violence is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is children or women who have been exposed to domestic violence, but since the subject of this section is violence in schools, violence against teachers was also discussed.

In the chapter “Bullying and Prevention of Bullying”, the author discussed the types of bullying, especially peer bullying and cyber bullying, which can be confused with violence in schools, and the studies aimed at preventing bullying in terms of school health and school safety. It was stated that efforts should be made to prevent bullying in order to reduce violence against children, to prevent all kinds of violence, and to ensure that children can continue their education life in a healthy and safe manner.
