Asst.Prof.Dr. Ayşenur ERDİL Presented the Results of her Research on the Effects of Enterprise Resource Planning on the Economic Efficiency and Sustainable Growth of Enterprises

Asst.Prof.Dr. Ayşenur ERDİL, faculty member of the Department of Management of the Faculty of Political Sciences of our university, presented the results of her research on the effects of enterprise resource planning on the economic efficiency and sustainable growth of enterprises with her paper titled “Evaluation of the Importance of Enterprise Resource Planning on Business Performance and Sustainability” at the VIIIth International European Congress on Social Sciences held in Croatia on 4-5 December 2022.

Stating that enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a system developed to reveal the strengths of the enterprise in order to increase its business performance and sustainability, ERDİL pointed out that in the competitive environment that has developed as a result of economic globalization, companies need to find a way to use their resources effectively and ensure resource efficiency. In this context, she emphasized that it is important for businesses to benefit from product innovations and process innovations in information technologies to ensure that the resources required to provide products and services are organized efficiently. She mentioned that such ERP package programs improve all departments of the enterprise and provide economic efficiency as well as resource efficiency by bringing together the resources provided for all departments in order to ensure the harmony between the departments.

In the study, ERDİL first presented a general review of ERP. Then, she examined the importance of ERP applications in the decision-making process in management through national and international ERP application examples. She also used the case study to discuss the contributions of ERP to the sustainable growth of enterprises by presenting analyses on the sustainability of business performance and efficiency-oriented productivity enhancement as well as and evaluations and suggestions on business factors. ERDİL compared and evaluated the data on the performance criteria of the white goods manufacturer company before and after using the ERP system and proposed solutions to improve the system. These solutions were determined as follows: focusing on the business processes of production for quality improvement, production planning and instant stock and quantity monitoring to be uploaded during the production cycle, fast and accurate calculation of process and product costs, consolidated budget reporting, reduction of costs, reduction of cycle time (a process), integration and single point control of resources, ensuring resource efficiency, etc. In the study, it was observed that thanks to the transition of the enterprise to the ERP system, all functions of the enterprise could be managed from the integrated system, and after using the application, many business processes in the enterprise were realized faster than before. This revealed that significant improvements were achieved in the loss of time in the production/service processes of the enterprise, productivity and efficiency increased significantly within the scope of sustainability of business performance, and business management became easier.

ERDİL emphasized that businesses should use the opportunities they have to the best of their ability to achieve their goals, keep up with technological product and process innovations and make their systems compatible with technology according to their own goals, so that it will be much easier to achieve the intended benefits in accordance with the vision and mission of enterprises. In the study, it was determined that ERP software programs will help prevent losses, delays and disruptions that will keep businesses behind the competition, and that in addition to the generally known advantages, they also provide different advantages from sector to sector or from business to business.  The results of the research revealed that there were improvements in most of the performance criteria for businesses before and after the ERP software, business processes were shortened thanks to the process innovations, the speed of information transfer got faster, and financial management and inventory management were facilitated.
