IMU Started to Provide Food Support to Its Students in the Central Library Building

Istanbul Medeniyet University continues to develop intervention methods to ensure food safety of students in study environments and during exam periods.

Istanbul Medeniyet University has added a new one to its free food support practices to prevent/alleviate malnutrition and hunger among its students and staff. In cooperation with Ziraat Bank, starting from November 2022, free tea/coffee and cakes were offered to our students who study at the Ziraat Bank Central Library, located in the North Campus area of our University.

It is known that a balanced and healthy diet significantly affects the quality of life and success. For this reason, as Istanbul Medeniyet University, we make nutritional improvements to ensure that our students receive adequate nutrition, especially during their long-term studies and exam periods, against the risk of neglecting their nutrition and facing hidden hunger. In addition to the hot soups distributed free of charge on our campuses during exam periods, the food offerings that were started to be offered in our library building created an opportunity to provide a food support that our students can benefit from continuously in the study areas.

In order to provide this food support to our students studying in the library, a vending machine was installed in the library building and the balances of food support that they can use once a day were loaded onto the student cards of all our students. Our students received daily free food support from these vending machines by using their personal cards. With this application, financial support was provided to our students, especially from low-income families, in terms of meal expenses.

At the end of two months, a total of 16.000 food support packages were provided to our students with this support program.
