Lecturer Dr. Ayşegül CAN´s article “Housing and Urbanization Policies of Istanbul, Turkey from Central to the Local” was published by Urban Research & Practice.
In her study, CAN mentioned the effects of the global economic restructuring that started in the 1970s and the state withdrawal from the production of public services, on the decrease in the production of affordable housing stock, and then focused on the housing policies of Turkey and Istanbul. Examining the impact of central and local government on housing production in terms of legal and political aspects, CAN examined plans and strategy documents made at upper and lower scales through content and policy analysis. In the study, which is important in terms of discussing the scope of housing investments in metropolitan cities, the housing policies of central and local governments and the role of institutions in housing production, the institutional, legal and economic perspective of housing production, it has been determined that current policies tend to maximize land values and rent in Istanbul.
