Medeniyet Audiology Days II Held with the Theme ‘Pediatric Audiology’

“Medeniyet Audiology Days II” event with the theme of “Pediatric Audiology” organized by the Audiology Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Istanbul Medeniyet University was held on 29.05.2022 at the Aşık Paşa Conference Hall.

At the congress, which Head of the Audiology Department Asst.Prof.Dr. Başak MUTLU and faculty members of the department took part in the organizing committee and approximately 250 participant attended, experts in the field of pediatric audiology shared their valuable knowledge and experience.  In the panel moderated by Prof.Dr. Mahmut Tayyar KALCIOĞLU, the critical importance of early diagnosis of pediatric hearing loss in protecting human health was mentioned. It was underlined that thanks to early diagnosis in health systems, the speech development of children with hearing impairment can be similar to their peers and contribute to the improvement of public health. In addition, it was emphasized that hearing loss in these children was no longer an obstacle for them for the rest of their lives.

In the panel moderated by Prof.Dr. Ayça ÇİPRUT, there was a detailed talk on methods of managing difficult cases. In the afternoon part of the program, objective evaluation methods, which are indispensable in pediatric audiology, were discussed. Presentations were made on these methods (ABR/BERA Hearing Test and Auditory steady-state responses/ASSR test), which are also called electrophysiological methods, and the differences between these screening tests were mentioned. Finally, very specific topics such as assistive technologies used in auditory rehabilitation and pediatric vertigo were discussed.
