Our Art History Club Becomes a ‘’Club for UNESCO”

Istanbul Medeniyet University Art History Club has become a Club for UNESCO after successfully completing the process, which they started with the initiative of Res.Asst. Yasin SAYGILI, the club’s advisor from the Art History Department.

The organizations with which UNESCO, an important international organization in the protection of World Cultural Heritage, cooperates at local level and carries out joint activities and projects are known as Clubs for UNESCO. NGOs and Communities that carry out activities such as cultural heritage studies, international cooperation, cultural cooperation, etc. are examined after the application and approved by the UNESCO Turkish National Commission.

Although every club is free to choose the particular aims and activities they would prioritize, the Clubs for UNESCO mainly aim to foster the dissemination of UNESCO’s principles and objectives and to carry out initiatives to this end; to contribute to international understanding, cooperation and world peace; to support human rights; to contribute to democracy and citizenship education of their members; and to take part in social development to create the ideal conditions for the development of humanity.

Within the framework of this process, the goals of the club in the near future are: To provide information about the club’s activities, to organize events on issues such as environmental protection and preservation of cultural heritage, to provide a clearer idea about the social and cultural conditions not only for the members but also for the individuals around them, and to organize excursions to monuments and museums to create a communication bridge between people from different backgrounds.

We congratulate our club on becoming the first club to be entitled to receive this title among the Art History Clubs in other universities of Turkey and wish them continued success.
