Prof. Dr. Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN, Faculty Member of Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Educational Sciences, gave a face-to-face seminar to 30 participants working in the field of special education at Alpaslan Autism Foundation as a voluntary service on June 14, 2022 in order to use the “VB-MAPP” program, which has been widely used internationally for many years and more widely in the field of special education in Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Yeşim GÜLEÇ ASLAN mentioned in the seminar that there have been promising developments in the use of scientifically based and especially comprehensive intervention and assessment methods for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Turkey. On the other hand, she explained that there is a need for scientifically based assessment and intervention programs that comprehensively assess and support the skill areas of individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities. In this respect, GÜLEÇ ASLAN said that bringing scientifically based, comprehensive intervention programs and evaluation systems to Turkey is important in increasing the quality of services to be provided to individuals with special needs and their families, adding that “VB-MAPP” is one of the prominent programs in the education of individuals with ASD and developmental disabilities explained. “VB-MAPP” or ‘Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program’ is one of the prominent programs in the education of individuals with ASD and developmental disabilities. Within the scope of early intervention, GÜLEÇ ASLAN translated and adapted this program into Turkish as it has the potential to make significant contributions to the development of language and social skills of children with ASD and other children with developmental disabilities in Turkey.
