Our Psychology Club Organized a Creative Drama Workshop

As Istanbul Medeniyet University, we see education as a process that is way beyond vocational training. Therefore, we prioritize our students’ personal development in addition to their vocational training.

Istanbul Medeniyet University Psychology Club Social Activity Team organized a four-week face-to-face event called “Creative Drama Workshop” on the days 28 November – 5 December – 12 December – 19 December 2022. The aim of the workshop was to learn the concept of Creative Drama and apply it together, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Elif KIR CULLEN.

In the first week, after introducing themselves, workshop participants engaged in an activity using strings. They later participated in a mirror activity, where they imitated each other’s movements, creating a creative experience.

The second week began with participants individually drawing five unique qualities about themselves and randomly distributing these hand drawings to other participants. Next, matched participants tried to find each other by making a sound and blowing a whistle, experiencing the challenge of locating and merging amidst noise. They also engaged in a group activity where they built and presented a machine. The final activity involved participants sharing their fears and giving each other a tangled ball of string, which they then untangled together.

In the third week, participants formed pairs and created sculptures using strings, interpreting and discussing their artworks. A sequencing activity based on birth dates was carried out, dividing participants into two lines and competing in placing objects into a box. Lastly, they divided into five groups and created a project reflecting the stages of life through photo frames.

Finally, in the fourth and last week, workshop participants started with an activity of creating and interpreting sculptures by connecting each other with strings. They then worked on a project capturing the stages of life from birth to death through photo frames. With these activities, the final week of the workshop concluded.

The event provided an opportunity for students from different departments to come together, learn new skills, and have fun through interactive and creative experiences. Participants not only gained knowledge but also developed critical skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity, making their education more qualitative.
