Our Studies on Physical Health Risks and Psychological Well-being of Mothers Caring for Persons with Disabilities Have Been Completed

The last phase of the social responsibility project titled “Improving Posture and Health-Related Physical Fitness Parameters of Those Who Provide Primary Care Services to Persons with Disabilities”, which our university started on March 3 in cooperation with the Foundation for the Physically Disabled, with the activities we held at the Physical Disabled Foundation branch in Gaziantep between 18-21 June 2023. we have successfully completed.

We have successfully concluded our project, which includes assessment, exercise training and ergonomics training for families of disabled individuals, aiming to increase the physical and psychological well-being of caregivers through exercise, to adopt healthy lifestyles and to reduce the health risks associated with care.

Our Head of Department Assoc. Prof. Nilüfer KABLAN, Deputy Head of Department Asiss. Prof. Tansu BIRINCI and our lecturers Lect. Ayça EVKAYA ACAR, Res. Ass. Emel METE, Res. Ass. Gülser CINBAZ and Res. Ass. Esma Nur KOLBAŞI DOĞAN, consisting of evaluated the changes in the posture, balance and pain of the participants during these three days.

Our project created quite a stir in the local and national press and was appreciated. On the last day of our Gaziantep visit, we held a picnic meeting with the disabled individuals and their families, hosted by FEV, with the participation of our Vice Rector of Istanbul Medeniyet University Prof Dr Yaşar BÜLBÜL and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Aygül YANIK and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet BERK.

Our teachers had the opportunity to get one-to-one feedback about the project from the families at the picnic, which provided socialization with both the students and their families. By evaluating the needs and demands of families, we came up with new ideas about what we can do to make the lives of people with disabilities and their families even easier.

In the light of these ideas, it was decided in principle that Istanbul Medeniyet University and the Foundation for the Physically Handicapped continue their successful cooperation in new projects more intensely.
