Seminar on “Organ Donation and Its Importance” Organized by Medeniyet Health Club

A seminar on “Organ Donation and Its Importance” was held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, to raise awareness about organ donation in Medeniyet Health Community with the collaboration of Istanbul Medeniyet University Medeniyet Health Club and Sultan 2. Abdulhamid Han Training and Research Hospital Organ Transplant Coordination Unit.

The seminar was attended by 150 university students and Op. Dr. Gültekin HOŞ, Responsible Physician for Istanbul (North Marmara) Organ and Tissue Transplantation Regional Coordination Center and Founder of Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital Liver Transplantation Unit, who made suggestions to young people to increase organ donation.

Selda URHAN, Organ Transplant Coordinator of Sultan 2. Abdulhamid Han Training and Research Hospital, was invited as a speaker to the seminar, which was designed to raise awareness about extending average life expectancy for individuals waiting for organ donation and organ transplant. Selda URHAN talked about the importance of organ donations for human health and public health, the health conditions in which transplantation can be performed, potential donors and receivers, the organ donation process, and where and how the organ donation can be made. She also explained how the follow-up of individuals after transplantation and measures to avoid preventable deaths.
