In TUBITAK Science Talks, Assist. Prof. Mesut Akıl Informed High School Students About Contagious Disease Cyst Hydatid in TUBITAK Science Talks

Within the scope of Science Talks Activities supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), Assist. Prof. Mesut AKIL, who is a faculty member of IMU Faculty of Medicine, Parasitology Department, made an interview on April 18, 2022 in the conference room of Fındıklı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (Beyoğlu-İST).

A total of 170 students and teachers from the 9th and 11th grades from the Nursing Assistant, Midwife Assistant and Health Care Technician departments participated in the two-session event. In this event, which aims to increase science awareness and popular science literacy by bringing scientists together with students, the subject of Hydatid Disease, which is transmitted at an early age and adversely affects human health, was discussed.

Dr. AKIL encouraged the students to science by mentioning his scientific studies as well as information about hygiene rules, healthy nutrition and raising healthy individuals, which are important in the prevention of hydatid disease. He talked about the health risks and mortality rate of this contagious disease, which is transmitted from dogs to humans, especially in terms of public health, underlining the importance of having a healthy lifestyle.

After the presentation, the students’ questions were answered and a certificate of appreciation was presented by the school principal, İsmail YILDIRIM to our professor.
