The Art History Club Organized a Trip to Promote the Natural And Cultural Heritage of Eskişehir

The Art History Club of our university organized a day trip to Eskişehir on November 27, 2022, with the aim of introducing the natural and cultural heritage of the city. The trip was led by the club’s advisor, Res.Asst. Yasin SAYGILI.

Eskişehir, known for its diverse natural and cultural attractions, provided the perfect setting for the excursion. The first stop was the Eti Archaeology Museum, where participants had the opportunity to explore archaeological artifacts and take a journey through Eskişehir’s ancient history.

Next, the group visited the Odunpazarı Historical City Center, famous for its preserved streets, historical buildings from the Seljukid, Ottoman, and Republican periods, and the most important elements of traditional Turkish neighborhood. This area is also listed on the UNESCO Temporary World Heritage List. The participants had the chance to visit the Odunpazarı Modern Museum, which showcases art pieces reflecting Eskişehir’s cultural and historical fabric, as well as the Historical Odunpazarı Mansions, examples of Traditional Turkish Houses, and Odunpazarı Handicrafts Museum, highlighting traditional crafts.

The next stop on the itinerary was the Wax Museum, where lifelike wax figures of famous personalities are exhibited. Participants had the opportunity to take photos with the wax figures of renowned personalities and interact with historical figures.

The following destination was the Kurşunlu Mosque and Complex, an impressive example of Ottoman architecture. Club members had the chance to explore the complex, including structures such as the madrasah (theological school), tomb, and fountain.

The group then visited the Glass Arts Museum, which showcases various aspects of glass art and highlights the history and importance of glass craftsmanship.

Lastly, the excursion concluded with a visit to the Wooden Artifacts Museum, where participants observed the richness of wood carving and decoration, and discovered the artistic value of woodworking.
